Therm-a-Rest NeoAir USER REVIEW

Editor: Kim Swank

Basic Description of Item:

The NeoAir mattress represents the world’s most advanced engineering in ultralight comfort. Beyond being the lightest air mattress available, we’ve utilized two patent-pending internal technologies, making it up to three times warmer and far more stable than any other uninsulated air mattress available. And when it comes to space in your pack, you’ll appreciate that it’s no bigger than a one-liter water bottle. Revolutionary by design, the gossamer NeoAir mattress makes comfort one less thing you’ll need to compromise when traveling fast and light.

Just the Facts:

The Therm-a-Rest NeoAir comes in four sizes; small, medium, regular, and large (Prices very for each size). The weight of the mattresses start at 9 oz for the small, 1 lbs 3 oz for the large and of course weight ranges in between those sizes. The width and length of the NeoAir very as well. Starting at 20 in X 47 in for the small, 25 in X 77 in for the large, and the regular coming in at 20 in X 72 in. The thickness of the mattress is 2.5 in and only comes in one color and that is limon.

Story:

With a 2011 deer tag in hand I needed to upgrade my backpacking mattress. I currently had one that was pretty lite but was lacking the thickness I needed for a good night sleep out in the back country. That is why the NeoAir caught my eye being 2.5 inches thick and weighing 14 oz for the size I needed, this would be perfect. Now with that being said, when you see the mattress you will first question the durability of it. Don’t, it is a quality product that will prove you wrong. With my pack on my back and rifle in hand we headed out. My twin brother was along on the trip. We arrived to are basecamp just before the sun made its way behind the mountains. We set up the tent and readied all are gear for a goodnight sleep. That 2.5 inches sure is NICE. After the first few night my brother was asking each night if he could sleep on my pad because the one he had just wasn’t thick enough to avoid the rocks and little bumps under the tent that can ruin the sleep you need while out in this setting. We spent 6 nights out in the field and I loved every minute above that mattress. I am a believer and so is my brother. If you do this kind of hunting, this mattress will be perfect for you!

What they could do better:

The only thing they could have done better with the NeoAir and really all Therm-a-Rest is having the mattresses come with a stuff sack.
