Story:
2 years ago I decided I was tired of buying a new family tent on an annual basis! We camp, hunt and use our tents, I have had some decent family type hunting tents, but could not get them to last.
So…I looked into buying a Kodiak or a SpringBar tent. I have used the spring bar tents for many years as I have gone with the Boy Scouts. I decided on the Kodiak mainly due to the price, about $100 less, and I like the pole set up better. (shockcorded vs pull out)
The first time I used the Kodiak was on an Antelope Hunt in Wyoming. The temperatures dipped to below zero! IT WAS COLD. We placed a small heater inside of the tent to keep it warm, which worked well. ONLY USE A TENT HEATER!!! Or you will die.
The tent went up easy, and quickly. The design is simple and durable. There is a ridge pole, connected to 2 flex bars, and then connected to 2 end poles, so very simple.
It is best to set up the tent with 2 people, but possible with 1.
The top of the tent is very tight, which is great, it lends to water and snow sliding off with easy.
Inside you will find a ROOMY tent. The ceiling is 6 feet 6 inches, and the walls are straight up, allowing a person to stand up in all areas of the tent.
The tent I have, the DELUXE, has 2 huge doors in the front and 2 huge windows in the back. It also has 2 small vent holes in the upper corners of the tent. All of this allows for great air flow in the hot of the summer, and the ability to close it off at night and in the cold weather.
I have used the Kodiak flex-bow tent on many trips now, and am more impressed each time I go out.
The floor is made of HEAVY vinyl material that is almost indestructible. It can be used right against the ground, but I like to use a tarp of some sort under it, just to keep it clean and easier to put up clean.
This tent compares very favorably with the Spring Bar tent. It is HIGH quality, weather proof, and should be a tent that is in your family for Years and Years.
Kodiak is headquartered in the US, Salt Lake City. They are easy to get in contact with, and seem very knowledgeable, and helpful. I am confident that if you have a problem, they will take care of it.
The Kodiak tent is almost like sleeping in a cabin it is just an outstanding tent, and can be used in hot, cold, and very cold weather. Great job Kodiak.
What they could do better:
I am a little concerned by the tent stake loops. I have not had one fail, but they could pull out if you are not careful.
