Story:
I have had this filter on a few backpacking trips over the last six months. Before I bought the katadyn vario I was a water packer, usually packing all my water into where I was going. I can’t believe that it took me this long to invest in a filtration device. This alone saved me 5 to 15 pound off my pack.

This filter system has two filtration stages. The first uses the high performance glass fiber filter along with the charcoal to eliminate odors. The second adds a ceramic pre-filter along with the other two, which is designed for more cloudy water. The filter will pump approximately two litters per min. in the first stage and slightly slower in the second stage. It will filter just over 500 gallons before changing the filters, and weighs just 15 oz.

The Vario is designed to hook directly up to a bladder hose without having to tear your whole pack apart to get the bladder out, just to fill it up. When packing in somewhere to camp this is big time saver for me to just be able to hook to the hose, and pump in the water and off I go.

With a price tag around $90 you can’t go wrong. This is a pretty good filter. Mine has worked great and I would recommend it to anyone.
