Cabela’s Ingenius® Series 11″ Sock – Medium Weight

Editor: JACOB LONG

Basic Description of Item:

11″ medium weight hiking socks with a liner socks knitted together with a merino wool outer layer.

Just the Facts:

The first liner sock and insulating boot sock knit together as one piece of fabric. Because the Ingenius liner is fully integrated with the outer fabric, this eliminates the bunching and friction that can be caused by wearing two socks or even a sock with two separate layers. By knitting the layers together, this also increases the effective moisture-wicking properties of the sock. Included in the makeup is X-Static silver nylon, a unique material that takes pure silver and bonds it to the surface of a fiber. The result is outstanding odor prevention using an antimicrobial layer. X-Static accomplishes this by releasing silver ions to change the chemical composition of the elements that produce odor and bacteria. The Medium Weight (11″) is the best all-around hunting weight sock. Inner layer: 88% olefin, 12% X-Static silver nylon. Outer layer: 40% merino wool, 35% stretch nylon, 20% olefin, 5% Lycra® spandex. Made in USA.
Men’s sizes: M(5-8), L(9-12), XL(13-15).
Color: Charcoal/Black.

Story:

I have been obsessed with finding the best foot gear since last years backcountry mule deer hunt. I completely shredded both heels only a few miles into a 14 mile hike. The next 6 days were hell hiking on shale hill sides and avalanche shoots.
This year, I have been testing a few different socks including REI, Lopen, and Darn tough. Then, I found these Cabale’s ingenious socks. Let me tell you, there wasn’t any comparison. I have put over 40 miles on these socks, climbing over 6,000 vertical feet, post holed through snow drifts, got them soaked while crossing a stream, worn them several days in a row, and have never had a hot spot, bunching issue, or bad experience thus far.

My feet normally sweat and the wicking ability of these socks has been outstanding. They have been extremely comfortable while hiking at just above freezing to over 75 degrees. I believe the combination of my socks, boots, and insoles are the major reasons for this. I am wearing these socks in my Crispi Hunters boots with the Perfekt foots beds by Meindl. After reading many articles about proper foot care. I believe you must tackle all three dimensions to truly build your perfect hiking system.

What they could do better:

I wish they were slightly taller in the Medium and Light weight models.
