My Story:
You ever slip off your pad in the middle of the night? Ever fall in the crack between your pad and your partners? Well those days are over! Big Agnes (BA) have long produced some of the finest sleeping pads that can be purchased. The SLX Tent Floor Pad is everything a person could ask for in a pad. It is thick, comfortable and most importantly, it is very light for what it offers.
Sometimes weight is the main focus of a trip. Sometimes we make every sacrifice to cut ounces even at the expense of comfort. Sometimes however, we get to have the best of both worlds. Yes, I admit that the SLX Tent Floor Pad is not an ultra-light setup but it is an ultra-comfortable pad at an acceptable weight of just over 3.5 Lbs.
This march I went on a little shed hunting trip with my fellow IRG editor Johnny and my dogs. We had a great adventure and got some great testing in while enjoying some time away from the craziness of the COVID-19 world.
I had some great gear to test on this cold adventure. Luckily the SLX Tent Floor Pad is also insulated at R value of 3.2 so you can rest easy knowing that the cold air is not going to sneak underneath you and keep you up shivering at night. This pad makes for a great sleeping arrangement for two people in their own bags or if you are going to make one large camp bed. I also found it to be very comfortable as a solo bed. I mean, who doesn’t like a bigger bed?
The inflation and deflation ports of the SLX Tent Floor Pad are to the high standard you expect all BA products to possess. The SLX Tent Floor Pad is compatible with the BA Pad Inflation Sack or Pump House, and though neither was used during this test, I fully intend to get one as this thing is a bear to blow up by lungs and mouth.
I found that the SLX Tent Floor Pad fit wonderfully in my BA Fly Creek UL2 tent and it was a very comfortable nights rest. The nighttime temperature was down in the mid 20’s and I was snug as a bug on a huge bed! This pad fits every inch of space int he Fly Creek UL 2 so I had so much room for activities LOL.
If you are an adventurous couple or a big guy that likes some extra room this is the pad for you. I would not change a thing about this pad and I hope to use it on many adventures to come. The only thing I would caution is that due to it’s size it is both larger and heavier than a normal pad. You will want to take this into account while planning out your backpack gear list. Might have to share some items with your partner to account for the added weight and pack space.

What could be done better?
Nothing at all the pad is flawless. Sure wish I had the Pump House or Pad Inflation Sack though. You will want to throw one of those items into your cart when purchasing the SLX Tent Floor Pad because blowing it up with your mouth is a very dizzying endeavor.
