I got my hands on the Merrell Pantheon shoes a few weeks ago. I wanted to check them out, because I had herniated a disk in my pack, and was experiencing foot drop and toe numbness, yeah it sucks.
I had only 1 pair of shoes that were comfortable, and that was the Merrell Radlands. I decided to check out another pair of Merrells, so I grabbed the Pantheon shoes.
I liked the look of the shoes, the stylish sporty look, the lace out to the end like a true climbing shoe, and the color. So, I thought it looked cool.
On putting the shoe on I noticed the outstanding arch support, and felt that my wide foot fit well.
The lace up went great, I felt I could adjust the width and tightness with the laces, snugging the shoe tightly or keeping it loose and comfy…this gave me confidence that I could wear a variety of sock thicknesses and still have comfort.
On my first walk, I took the shoe up a closed paved road that was coated with 1-2 inches of snow and slush. I had a medium weight sock on my feet. I noticed the temperature read 36 degrees.
The Merrell Pantheon sole, vibram, gripped the snow and road just great as I hiked the 2 miles to the end of the road. The trip took me over an hour, as I stopped several times to look for deer and elk on the mountains near by. I paid attention to my feet, and found that they were staying very dry and quite warm.
Overall I found this shoe to be outstanding! It has great arch support, I can adjust the shoe with the laces and allow for a variety of socks, and it kept my feet dry and warm.
This is a great cross sport outdoor shoe that will keep you comfortable. Nice work Merrell, and thanks for providing an affordable shoe with great features.
What they could do better?
Nothing for this price.
