Story:
Haven’t you ever been outside in the rain and wish your hands and feet would stay perfectly dry no matter what activity you are doing? Well, Hanz USA has your answer. I have been testing out a pair of gloves and socks that they manufacture in the USA and I have been very impressed! Let me start off by saying they are constructed of a 3 layer MVT membrane to keep you dry. Each are tested to ensure no leaks before they leave the factory. There are a lot of different membranes out there, but it is similar to a breathable membrane you would find in a pair of waterproof boots or a rain jacket. It is designed to keep water in, while letting out vapor or sweat. As those molecules are much smaller than water molecules. In theory this is great and it is WAY better than have a plastic bag which doesn’t breath at all. However, when you are really active and sweating, no Membrane I have found will keep up with the amount of sweat and heat the body produces. I was extremely impressed with how waterproof these items were!
The Gloves were my favorite item. They fit extremely well and had a good amount of stretch in them. Again, stretch is something 3 layer membrane’s don’t do so well in my findings. These gloves however, really worked well. They were comfortable, easy to get on and stayed on. They never leaked once, even with water pressure and shooting my bow when they were wet. Normally a way to get membrane’s to fail is to apply pressure, and it will eventually force the water through. I could not make this happen. I think these gloves would be great for any activity in the rain or cold, or if you were fishing and didn’t want to get your hands wet and cold. I felt I could still hold a bow and shoot fairly well and also use tools, like a shovel or axe. The gloves also seemed to be very durable, I have used them for months and they look brand new still.
The socks I had less time using. I did really enjoy the socks but, I will say they are not socks I would wear on a mountain hunt or hiking really rough terrain. Remember the lack of stretch I talked about in a 3 layer membrane? Socks need a lot of stretch to fit on your foot. In order for these to fit they need to be a little roomier than the gloves. These socks are great for low output activities. Or, if you need to or want to wear running shoes for comfort but need your feet to stay dry. If I were going to be more active, I found that wearing a really thin wool sock or liner sock inside them worked best. An example would be bird hunting in a wet field, or when it is really cold out and keeping your feet dry is important so they stay warm. I love these socks; will you see me taking these on my next week long elk hunt? Probably not, but when I am doing low output activities in the wet Oregon Falls and Winter we have. You can bet I will have my Hanz USA socks on!
