Eberlestock X2 Day Pack Review

Editor: Brandon (user submitted)

The Story:
When I started researching what I wanted out of my next backpack purchase, I made a list of features which I was looking for that fit my needs. Half of my day pack use comes through picking up elk sheds and the other half comes from hunting elk each fall. Most days I cover anywhere from 6-12 miles. Knowing this, I put priority on a day pack that is hydration compatible for a water bladder, has the ability to strap on elk sheds or an elk quarter to make the first load out (and therefore save a trip out for the pack frame and back in), and has the frame/support to make those loads manageable. The Eberlestock X2 is a pack that will fulfill each of those needs.

I have used the Eberlestock x2 pack now for the last 2 years of archery elk and shed hunting, and I have been very pleased. The pack shows no signs of wear, and I take it straight through scrub oak tangles on my back. The pack does have some limitations though which need to be known before purchase. There is no adjustment for torso length which seems to be a complaint amongst taller people. At 5’8, this hasn’t been an issue for me, but is the reason for docking the “ergonomics” score. The pack is designed with 2 batwing-style pockets then buckle close around a main central pocket. The batwings allow for strapping on my elk sheds or a first-load out elk quarter. One batwing pocket carries my 100oz CamelBak hydration bladder, and the other usually holds my spotting scope. I would like to see the hydration compatibility be moved into the main pocket, because once loads are secured on by the batwings, it’s more difficult to access the central pocket, and one of the batwings is already filled up completely with a bladder that I won’t need to access during my hike. This is a minor complaint for me though as the ability to strap on loads, the vented back with frame, and the ability to utilize it for going in light overnight as well make it a really versatile pack that fits my listed needs.
This is one of the best
