I purchased the Big Agnes Yampa Sleeping Bag and the Big Agnes Insulated Air Core pad because I anticipated that I would be spending a number of nights that summer and early fall either scouting for or hunting Desert Bighorn Sheep with my brother-in-law who was lucky enough to draw the coveted Utah Sportsman’s tag.  As it turned out, my first experience was during the opening weekend of the Utah archery deer hunt.  The Big Agnes system is very well thought out and the Air Core pad fits nicely in the integrated pouch in the Yampa bag.  The bag and pad both pack into a very light and compact package making them very convenient for backpacking.  The Yampa is very roomy with a generous cut.  This is particulary helpful when the temperatures are warm.  Unfortunately, on this hunt, we camped at an elevation of around 8500 feet and the nightime tempertures were far from warm.  In fact, they got close to freezing and I learned first hand that the 45 degree rating is real.  I would not want to take the bag again unless I was relatively certain that the nightime temperatures would not drop below about 50 degrees.  The quality and design of the bag are excellent.  Despite being cold and moving frequently all night long, the Air Core pad stayed in place and under me all night long.  I am looking forward to taking the bag on a warm weather trip and would recommend it to anyone interested in weight, packable size and comfort in warm weather camping.

What could they do better?

The only shortcoming I found in the bag was my own application of it.  Perhaps a warning label stating that the bag really is a warm weather bag!
